Mark L. Manewitz is Counsel to Smith Buss and Jacobs and has a broad-based environmental law practice. He has clients in energy, manufacturing real estate and high tech. Mark is a nationally recognized expert in Environmental Law:
Mark’s practice includes the environmental aspects of business transactions and environmental litigation, and the various aspects of the development of contaminated property for commercial and residential use, or Brownfield Development. He has advised clients on the development of alternative energy projects, including geothermal and solar energy projects. He has more than 30 years of experience in energy and environmental law and during that time has represented his clients in a wide variety of matters, including state and federal enforcement actions in New York, New Jersey, and several other jurisdictions. Mark obtains favorable results before administrative agencies and in litigation, and enables clients to reach favorable agreements in complex environmental issues with private parties and State and Federal agencies. Mark has expertise which clients have valued in obtaining permits from State and Federal Agencies and obtaining favorable consent orders with State and Federal agencies. His expertise includes corporate environmental compliance and compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14000.
Mr. Manewitz was head of the Environmental practice group at Herrick Feinstein LLP. A partner with Reed Smith as well as Counsel with Skadden Arps.
Mark is a former chair of the Environmental Law Section of the New Jersey Bar. And for the last 10 years has been a member of the Executive Committee and Co-Program Director for the New Jersey, the Justice Stewart G Pollock Environmental American Inn of Court.
Before going into private practice, Mark was Assistant General Counsel of Coltec Industries (formerly Colt Industries), an international manufacturer, overseeing all of the company's environmental matters, and was Senior Counsel to Exxon Company U.S.A., with responsibility for environmental matters in the eastern United States. Before joining Exxon, Mark served as Senior Counsel to the Power Authority of the State of New York where had responsibility for the legal aspects of the construction of the Indian Point 3 Nuclear plant, other Power Authority Nuclear facilities, transmission lines and power plants.
